City of Sanford Inks Agreement with CBRE | The Boulos Company to Sell Emerson School Property

February 12, 2014

SANFORD, MAINE – At the request of the City of Sanford, the Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council prepared and issued an RFP in late December 2013 to secure a commercial broker to market and sell 975 Main Street in Sanford (the 3.11 acre former Emerson School property located in the center of the community).

Following a review of proposals by the growth council Staff & Board of Directors in January 2014, and subsequent meetings with the City Council’s Property Sub-Committee (PSC), CBRE | The Boulos Company (“Boulos”), headquartered in Portland Maine, was selected by the Sanford City Council to serve as commercial broker. Visit the Boulos website for additional information about the company.

The PSC met Tuesday with Growth Council Executive Director Jim Nimon and City Manager Steve Buck to interview Boulos Partner Craig Young and Associate Ty Hobbs. After considerable discussion about the company’s experience and a status update of the property, the PSC approved the draft listing agreement and the group toured the former Emerson School and surrounding property. Following the tour Boulos and City officials reconvened to sign the listing agreement and let the company get to work marketing and selling the property.

Mr. Young indicated that he and Mr. Hobbs “were anxious to get started and would be making phone calls on the drive back to Portland” to set marketing steps in motion. They expected a flurry of immediate activity including constructing a highly visible sign on the property, preparation of marketing materials and phone, mail and internet outreach to their extensive network of developers, operators and investors.

Mr. Buck said: “The Boulos staff assigned to this project are experienced and tested commercial brokers. Given their background, network and enthusiasm we are anticipating a successful transaction for the City. This is such an important location for the community so will be working to ensure an appropriate development project occurs there.”

The Growth Council will remain as the point of contact for the City and Boulos as leads develop in the coming weeks and months. Mr. Nimon said, “We are pleased to be working with such an accomplished commercial broker as Boulos and look forward to a successful outcome for the City of Sanford.” The Growth Council will be forwarding any and all property inquiries to Boulos.
