Sanford International Film Festival Will Return in May 2015!

December 9, 2014

Want to see a good movie, or ten, maybe grab a bite to eat with your family while you're out? How about a whole week of entertainment and discounts--for TEN DOLLARS. The best value in film-festival history is back and bigger than ever, as the Sanford International Film Festival (SIFF) returns May 27th through May 31st, 2015 at City Hall Auditorium, and several locations across Sanford, Maine!

SIFF is a special experience because of our community: the city, school department, nonprofits, dozens of businesses, and hundreds of volunteers are collaborating to celebrate film, filmmakers, and the spirit of Sanford.

This year's event will showcase a free evening of dramatic and historical films about Sanford, a student film festival open to any K-12 students with a $250 cash prize for best film, a Script-to-Screen competition open to the public where local production companies will adapt a winning script into a movie, and several days and several screens of the best movies from Maine and around the world.

Those who buy a pass will be welcomed to special deals and discounts at restaurants and shops all across the city.

For families: This year the festival is marking a whole location green-lit for you. There will be a family discount on passes, as well as face-painting, photo-opportunities with movie and cartoon characters, and a whole day of programs suitable for families with kids.

Horror fans--don't fret; SIFF has got you covered as well. There will be a screen dedicated to the dark side of cinema, with local premieres and Q and A sessions with some of the most talented and twisted minds in the business.

Film and video submissions for the festival will be open here on Monday, December 15th, and this year the festival is offering even more perks to local and visiting filmmakers, including cash prizes ranging from $100 to $500 dollars, to be determined by a panel of knowledgeable judges, including Sanford News Editor and film connoisseur Shawn Sullivan, and WSSRTV Manager/Programmer Sarah Schnell.

If you would like to get involved in planning or volunteering at this year's event--or if you have any questions please contact festival director James Harmon at jharmon2@sanford.org.
