RFP for SanfordNet Fiber Released April 2

April 11, 2018

The City of Sanford has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the construction of its SanfordNet Fiber municipal broadband network.  The network will consist of approximately 40 miles of fiber optic cable, making it eight times as large as the next largest municipal network in Maine when complete.

This announcement signals the next major phase of the SanfordNet Fiber project, which has spent significant time in the planning and engineering phases. The project, funded by the City of Sanford and the U.S. Economic Development Administration, will connect approximately 85 community anchor institutions (hospitals, schools, municipal buildings, historic millyard and industrial parks) to the statewide Three Ring Binder middle mile fiber optic network via a dedicated lateral to the Three Ring Binder in Wells. Head-end facilities will be located at Sanford City Hall. It is envisioned that future stages of SanfordNet will allow for connections to residences and other businesses in the City.
